As YES as it gets

Trio Magnus presents
'As YES as it gets'
Jun 24 - Jul 22, 2010

As all Torontonians know, the G20 Summit will turn the city into a miserable tangle of concrete, chain-link and pepper spray. The one bright spot? The opening of As Yes As It Gets, a new, eye-popping show from the Trio Magnus collective (Aaron Leighton, Steve Wilson and Clayton Hanmer) at Resistor Gallery! Armed with only red and black markers and a whole lot of canvas, Trio Magnus has spent since January doing what they do best: drinking Sapporo tall boys, listening to Zeppelin and creating a surreal, spicy masala of subconscious tomfoolery in the form of gigantic six-foot square drawings as well as smaller silkscreen prints. And if that weren't enough, comic crackerjack J. Bone will be exhibiting his fantastic yarn sculptures based on Trio Magnus characters. Come on out, and say YES to the ultimate anti-establishment event!

Pixel Gallery presents
'BOBO'
Mar 31 - Apr 20, 2010*

Opening reception on Mar 31, 2010, 7PM, $5 donation

Does the image of the clown make you giggle like a child, or are you petrified of the thought? Emotional or indifferent perhaps? The iconic image of the clown evokes both positive and negative reactions. For some, the mere mention or presence of a clown conjures up childhood memories of birthday parties and good cheer, while others are confronted with feelings of inexplicable uneasiness. People's strong reactions to clowns offer them a mirror for their own joys and fears in the form of a caricature. In this installation the clown itself is neither frightening nor humorous, but instead blank, until defined by you.

In this installation an old weary traveler named BoBo has transcended time to appear for you in his mysterious photo booth. After a frenetic performance he asks you to perform for him to become part of his permanent collection in his gallery of souls. Unaware, he takes your picture from head to toe and transforms only your facial emotions into an artistic interpretation. You are now part of BoBo's gallery of souls!

Come visit and be a part of BoBo's gallery and see what other unexpected and magical things happen when you tour the gallery.

EC Book Launch

Electric Company presents
'EC BOOK LAUNCH'
Mar 25, 2010

This is the inaugural volume of the EC book, a publication that explores, supports and celebrates creative production. EC recognizes that many of us who work in creative fields also live and breathe the passion of art and design in our daily lives. This book is the reflection of that commitment.

The work between these covers represents both EC colleagues and the interdisciplinary nature of today's content makers. Going forward the project will include themed issues, featured artists, and web content that we hope will work to inspire photography, film, illustration, design, motion, animation, music/ sound, drawing, sculpture, writing and storytelling of all kinds.

Based in Toronto, Electric Company Art & Design aims' to continue its extension as a hub for creative culture both locally and abroad through its creative branches Resistor Gallery and iamstatic.com.

Celebrate the launch with us, have a beverage and find out how you can contribute.

Thursday March 25, 2010, 7:00PM at Resistor Gallery

'Universe Birthday Party'
Alex Kurina, Nuit Blanche window installation
Oct 3, 2009

Universe Birthday Party (189 Balloons) is a video installation by Alex Kurina, celebrating the universe. On October 3rd, 2009 you can help ring in the 13.73 billionth year (give or take 120 million years) of a celestial body that has given so much yet asked for so little. Running for one night (give or take a night), Universe Birthday Party will be visible from College Street (one block west of Spadina) during Nuite Blanche, as part of its very unofficial program.
